I think you're right about the road being worse after the Lodge, I did walk down it a bit and noticed that it was not as well graded.

the lodge is a little pricey too so I think we may just head back after dinner....
thanks all.;..
I"m also going to post about the tasman glacier boat trip. If you've been and would care to comment, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Jaspertl, if you stay in one of the Wilderness Rooms it isn't too bad. Those prices aren't US dollars, they're Kiwi ones. I'd be surprised if you found much less than $80 to $100 NZ in Queenstown. (Or you can do what I did, get the $33 per bed room and and assume that no one is going to join you!)

Hmmm...I'm going to have to check the prices again. I thought it was much more then that. That price would be fine.
Another thing is.... I hate not having my own bathroom. The place looks very cool though and would be a perfect place to spend the night at the end of a great day.
We'll definitely consider it.

I'm with you jaspertl, I need my own loo, the main reason we've not yet stayed at Kinloch.

There are other inexpensive options in Glenorchy though - I've attached a link. NOte that Blanket Bay is NOT one of them.

Basically, it's camping with a comfortable bed. It isn't a hotel experience, it's a wilderness lodge...if you are comfortable in a campground, you'd be comfortable there.

Wow...blanket bay looks amazing...I'm going to have to google it just to see more. very pricey I'm sure.

mlgb: Camping....yeah, that would be motel 6 for me (a budget chain in California) I did lots of camping years ago but I now like the little pleasures...like my own bathroom.

I also don't know that we'll have the time to spend the night after looking at our (first draft) itinerary. We'll be leaving for Te Anu the next day out of QT and probably will want to get an early start.

But we'll definitely drive back as far as time allows. Thanks again and again for the tips.

Queenstown to Te Anau is about a two hour drive. Add 45 minutes if you're leaving from Glenorchy.
