Yes!
In the CBD, only fifteen minutes walk from the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, is the Pitt St Mall, and there you will find two major departnent stores (Myer and Grace Bros) and a host of specialty shops. Five minutes further on is the Queen Victoria Building, where the boutique shops are pricey but the product very classy.
Away from the city, you have great shopping centres, often very close to railway stations, so that with a day pass you could "do" several in a day. Chatswood, Bondi Junction, and Parramatta are all less than half an hour away by train. With the last of these, you can go there by train and return by Rivercat (a ferry).... on the $AUD15 full-day pass, there's no extra charge.
At Auburn, near Parramatta, there is a large centre with factory-outlet stores. There are also factory-outlet stores in Redfern and Surry Hills.
As a nice change, there are the ethnic shopping centres: Cabramatta is nearly an hour from the city, but it's full of interesting Asian shops. Much more interesting (and genuine!) than Chinatown in the city! Marrickville (only fifteen minutes from the city)is also a centre for Arabic and Asian shops.
Finally, for expensive little boutique shops, head out to Paddington (walk from the city) or Balmain (a bus or ferry ride) or Double Bay (the Sydney equivalent of Rodeo Drive, also a bus ride away).
Have a great time!

In response to Alan, the 2 big Department Stores are Myer (used to be Grace Brothers) & David Jones which has 1 ladies store & 1 mens store diagonally opposite each other. Myer is near the Mid City Centre & Centrepoint (AMP) Tower which you can't miss as a landmark.
The other one you MUST explore is the Queen Victoria Building up near the Town Hall which is a gorgeous building taking up a city block near the Town Hall & contains over 200 shops, ranging from o.k. prices to very expensive. I bought a sports coat (jacket) from a shop in there that cost me the same as my airfare to Paris in Oct 03!!!!! (I still wonder about the wisdom of that purchase).
What more specifically are you interested in shopping for, what are your interests & what is your age bracket because these things will determine which stores you may be interested in. Where are you from btw as that will determine your exchange rate & what constitutes good value here in Sydney. How long will you be here & what else do you what to see/do?
Try to put sightseeing with shopping if they are in same/close location.
Regards from sunny Sydney,
Doug
