Sebel Pier One (The Rocks, Sydney)
Has anyone stayed here? We are looking for a hotel in the Rocks area that is within walking distance to major attractions such as the Sydney Bridge & Opera House. Our price range is $175-$250/night... Our other option is the Quay West.
Thanks in advance,
Arlene

Hi
We passed the Sebel Pier One as we were walking around under the Sydney Bridge. It did look interesting but you would have to crane your neck back to see the Harbor bridge and you would not be able to see the Opera House.

We stayed at the Quay Westand absolutely loved it! It was an exceptional one bedroom apartment with the most exceptional view of the Opera House and the bridge.

Sometimes you can find specials for Quay West and their other properties at their Mirvac Hotels site. Check it out. That's how we made our reservations.

Hi, Arlene!
Since Pattis's report on the Sebel doesn't make it sound like what you are after, try one of the following:
1. The Russell in George Street. Absolutely the nicest location in Sydney, and a great old building. They have a website with a photograph.
2. Lord Nelson Brewery. There's also a website with a photograph for this hotel, the oldest in Sydney... and it's right at the bottom of your price range, including breakfast.
3. Holiday Inn at the Rocks. Prices for this hotel seem to vary wildly.... one writer to this forum claimed she got a room for $139 (Australian) a night! More often, I think, it would be near the top of your price range, but it is (apart from the Russell) about the best location you will find. It hasn't got the character of the choices above, however.
Hope you find one of these to your liking!

I stayed there in October. While it is true that we couldn't see the bridge or OPera House, we did have a water view and were in easy walking distance to the bridge and all the attracions of the Rocks area, and not a bad walk to Circular Quay. I would probably stay at the Park Hyatt if I went back, but would stay at the Pier One if the Hyatt were not available.
