Bevzy this trip is getting better and better, what a birthday! I've been to Cottage Point Inn once and thought it was pretty ordinary. If you are in Kuringai National Park, the fish and chips at the boatshed near Bobbin Head is pretty good. I can't comment on Jonahs.

If you are taking the sea plane why not go to Berowra Waters Inn? It's not as good as it was in the Bilsen era, but the location is stunning and the food is very good.

yes-it is getting a bit over the top-but thinking maybe just a flight to north beaches at $225 each-200 each for lunch sounds a lot. Would they fly to berowra waters?? Thinking if we dont do the bridge climb -our knees!!!-this would be fun.

bevzy- You have found one of Sydney's best secrets- "Ku-ring-gai National Park" and adjoining river systems and abit further up "The Hawkesbury River"
Check out www.hawkesburyriver.org.au/
and www.peatsbite.com/ Peats Bite is only accessible by boat or seaplane. I haven't tried it but would like to pull up there in the boat one day.

Yes, you can take the sea plane to Berowra. These are the companies they recommend:

www.sydneyseaplanes.com.au

www.seawing-airways.com.au

I think it's a much better treat than climbing up the Harbour Bridge!

Can't comment on food at Jonah's these days but view over Whale Beach is great. As you say you'll be staying at Avalon, its only a short drive to Jonah's.

Was also going to suggest seaplane from Palm Beach (also close to Avalon) to Berowra Waters Inn but didn't know if restaurant was still operating - its been many years since I went, thanks Susan 7. Agree, a far bigger treat than climbing the Harbour bridge.

I think the Berowra Waters Inn has recently reopened - but have not read any reviews so far.

Here's a link to the SMH review that prompted a friend to suggest we have an excursion. It's good, just not exceptional like the old days.

Hi Bevzy,

Yes Yes do a flight over Sydney. My wife and I flew from Rose Bay to Cottage Point, with Sydney Seaplanes, a few weeks ago for lunch and we had a great time.

The views of sydney heads from a small plane and along the coastline and Sydney's northern beaches are amazing and something you'll have as a memory forever. On the return trip we flew over the city and did a twirl around the Opera House and Harbour Bridge (took lotsa photo's too).

Lunch at the Cottage Point Inn was also vey nice but the highlight for us was the flight over Sydney.

We've also done the bridge climb and out of the two I'd do the flight again.

I have been to Peats Bite twice in the past year - once for an anniversary lunch with DH and once for a family significant birthdays celebration - and loved both times. That part of the Hawkesbury is beautiful The restaurant has good food and is relaxed and fun for a long lunch.

Our friend said he will meet us at MANLY on first Sunday-Spit walk sounds good. Any other good ideas for what to do in Manly!!! Can't wait to visit all your recommended places. See you soon! ps Somebody should make Fodorite tee shirts so we could recognise other addicts.

Bevzy have a terrific birthday celebration!

I really like Manly, there are great walks around to Fairy Bower as well as to the Spit. I haven't been in ages, but the Yum Cha at Phoenix restaurant in Manly gets very good reviews.

Enjoy your trip bevzy, I haven't been to Manly for a couple of years either, but there was always a great fish and chip shop, Ocean something, on the Corso on RHS as you walk towards beach on ocean side of Manly. Its just before you reach Manly Esplanade.

Thanks for the review of Berowra Waters Susan, last time I was there Gail Bilson was the chef, sure a hard act to follow, I guess.
