Real Australian outback tour

Hi, I would like to go to Australia again in July/August 2002.Does anybody know where I can find organized tours through the REAL outback and desserts? Have heard that there are "Tag Along Tours" in a convoy of 4WD's through areas, where the standars touroperators do not go. Any info is welcome
Cees

Hi Cees,
where are you from?
This is exactly what I'm looking for.
I have heard of an expedition in 2002,
someone I meet in a chat mentioned that there was to be a Canning Stock Route trip that also is going to the Rudal River N.P.
He's getting info for me on it.
I'll see if I can raise him on his ICQ#.
I'll post any info I get here for you.
You can also send me an email, maybe we'll meet up on that Adventure.

Michael.
p.s. if he gets back with the info soon I'll pot it here straight away.

My goodness ! I'm also looking for info on this !! Although I'm from Sydney, I'm moving overseas next year and it just hit me that I have not seen nearly enough of this fabulous country...

My hubbie and I were thinking of Contiki (we are both young and wanted to do the camping one with the 4WD's). Has anyone else done this tour ?
G'day Cees, Michael, Dee and Everybody...

Cees and Michael, I did get this message that you are looking for a 4WD Expedition in 2002.

I'm leading such a trip during August this year. It's an East - West Crossing, Sydney to Perth via the deserts and Steep Point. 28 days in total.
There are a few people who for various reasons can't join us this year.
They have asked me to organise something similar for 2002.
Now, this is where we are at with that at the moment:
3 vehicles, 2 of then overseas visitors.
The route will most likely be Perth - Wiluna - Canning Stock Route - Halls Creek - Bungle Bungle. From there either to Alice Springs or keep going north - Kununurra - east to Victoria River and Katherine then north to Kakadu - Litchfield - Darwin.
While on the CSR we may detour to the Rudall River N.P.

Start most likely the 1st or 2nd week in August 2002.
Duration 24 to 29 days or so, depending on where we finish.

It won't be an easy trip but something real different and we'll be seeing areas not may ever get a chance to visit.
I'm expecting that there maybe 8 to 10 vehicles in total and that we'll all be working as a team.
It's possible that there maybe also a few seats available for passengers.

The important thing is that I can start organizing this very early as our Overseas particitants will need hired 4WD vehicles and well prepared ones suitable for this type of adventure are not easy to come by.

If you are interested in this then please contact me by email, but by all means leave a message here as well.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Mike
Hi Dee,
just re reading your message, you say that you are going overseas next year.

We could take one more vehicle with us on our East - West Crossing this year.

Unless you owe a 4WD you would need to hire one and that maybe a problem on such short notice.
If you like more info then please contact me by email.

Cheers,
Mike

G'day all you Adventurers.
Hi Bronny, it's good to see that you haven't given up on your dream.
I hadn't realized how many Aussies are participating here in Fodors forums.

Cees, yes there is a web site where I feature such expeditions. It's in need of an up date ( soon ) but it will give you some ideas about it.
The 2002 expedition mentioned there will now certainly be the CSR as mentioned above.
I'm in the process of completing an itinerary for it with a few options so as to cater for people with different lengths of time available to them.
Here is the site: http://www.great-tours.com
When you get there, please read also about how those trips came about.

Anybody interested for 2002 please contact me early!

Thank you to Michael for starting this discussion and to Peg for sharing your great photos.

Cheers,
Mike.
P.S. Bronny, I still have your contact details and will get back to you with some other info.

G'day All,
just an update for those who maybe interested.
Due to changed work situation for one of the particapants on our 2001 East - West Crossing we now have one ready prepared vehicle available for this adventure. Also one place is available for someone who may like to partner with another driver.
Here is a scenario for this adventure:
http://www.redcentre.com.au/2001/Dream-2001.htm

Please contact me if interested.

Cees, Michael and Dee, would that be the type of adventure you may take on?

See you in the bush,
Mike
