Mishoe,
My husband and I stayed at the Radisson Treetops in Port Douglas a few years ago, but I can't comment on their Cairns property. Personally I much prefer the Port Douglas area, it's the difference between a small seaside town and a large city...there there are lots of debates about the different merits of each on the board.
The Radisson is fine, we stayed because we got a very cheap last minute rate. The hotel is quite small and crowded around a cramped pool area, but it does have an open 'tropical feel'. You need to know that it's on the road outside Port Douglas so you have to drive into town endlessly.
Hope that helps

I stayed at the Radisson in Port Douglas a few years ago and liked it. It's not a big mega-resort. It's either a longish walk into town, or a short car/cab/shuttle ride (at the time, the free shuttle stopped fairly early in the evening). It was a fairly short walk across the road to the 4-mile beach. There should be several (many?) threads on this topic in the archives, try the text search box. Nearly everyone here would pick Port Douglas for vacation atmosphere.
