Queenstown NZ must-sees/must-dos?

Hi folks,

Heading off to NZ for a few weeks soon for what is really a working holiday. Does anyone have any suggestions for must-sees and must-dos in the area and around whilst I'm there? I probably won't have my own transport so it would have to be arranged excursions or places that are reachable via public transport probably. All suggestions appreciated! TIA.

Take the gondola up to the top of Bob's Peak, take a couple luge runs, and have drinks in their bar.

Take the TSS Earnslaw over to the Walter Peak Farm for the farmshow.

Rent a car for the day and visit the nearby wineries, stopping at the Kawarau (sp) bungy bridge to watch or jump yourself!

Take a bus trip (or rent a car and drive) to Fiordland, visiting Milford or Doubtful Sound.

Take a trip to Glenorchy, either with the Dart River Safaris or Nomad Safaris...Gorgeous!

You will love Queenstown. We are dying to get back there and to Fiordland again...hopefully in the next year or two!!

Great tips, thanks!

I should alsso mention that my base will be at Wanaka, so I would love to hear about any must-dos for that region (besides skiiing, which I'm not too keen on!)

puzzle world at wanaka is very cool.

tim and liz are on the money for queenstown must sees, the 'luge' was one of my favourite things - I could have stayed there all day.

arrowtown is also a nice spot to visit, a short drive from queenstown - combine with wineries such as Gibbston valley (who also have a cheese place, yummo)

is it possible for you to rent a car while you are there? you'll be able to see a lot more that way.

As well as all the great suggestions already mentioned you could always do the Kawarau Jet boat ride which is an alternative to the shotover jet or you can go quad biking where they filmed some of Lord of the Rings films. In Wanaka there are many nice tramps in the area or if the weather is pleasant you can go kayaking on Lake Wanaka. We didn't have enough time around Queenstown and Fiordland and like Liz cannot wait to go back!!!

Hi Steve,

Tim and Liz are spot on!

Hello, My name is Melodie, and I'm a Luge-A-Holic. (as is apparently Lance).

If you're into wine, there are some very good wine tours, and I'd also recommend the Skippers Canyon tour.

Regards,

Melodie

Hi there Melodie,

Can I ask which company you did the Skippers Canyon tour with and whether they have a website? Thanks.
