Prize of Accommodation on the Atherton Tablelands

For those who would like a free stay on the Atherton Tablelands for two nights, here is a competition which I think a Fodorite could win. The accommodation is set in the rainforest by a small river which has platypus and a rare turtle species. The forest abounds in birdlife and has a good representation of mammals. It make a great base for exploring the Tablelands for those who are prepared or prefer to self cater.

Commercial interest warning! The page sings my praises as a wildlife expert.

Thanks, better late than never!

Alan, did you see the actual bird or could you tell the sex from photographs?

I have seen the bird on and off since she was a little one. Photos of her now that she is growing up make it easier to sex as a male's tail will be starting to droop. The brood patch is back there and he is the one that needs it; doing all the incubation.

I got this email from David at The Canopy Treehouses this afternoon and of course I'll extend my part of the prize.

Hi Alan,

The comp winner was young James Dolby as per the link below.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Ca...77592?sk=notes

Apparently his dad Tim is quite senior in birding circles... Do you know of him?

Also given it is mum, dad and the 2 kids in the Dolby family we have extended the accom prize to include all four. Entirely up to you if you would like to follow suit with the birding tour or just keep it to the original two.

cheers,

David.

Far too pretty to be a boy was my original guess.

Congrats to the Dolby family

I guess it's best to check if the male's tail is starting to droop to confirm then
