Port Douglas Snorkel/Dive

Can anyone recommend a good snorkel/dive boat out of Port Douglas? We've seen posts about Wavelength and Calypso, and would like to hear any pros or cons, and whether there are other small boat operators (30 or less passengers) that anyone had a good (or bad) experience with. Thanks in advance,

Sharon

Sharon, we liked Wavelength out of Port Douglas. We took our trip to the GBR in August 2004. There were only 30 passengers or so-very nice with that group size.

They provided us with seasickness pills before we departed. We made three stops at different sites along the way. The water and coral formations were absolutely spectacular. A nice lunch was also included in the price. Chris, aka "Fluffy," our guide, was also entertaining but a bit hard to keep up with if you go off with him to snorkle with the "fast" group.

We enjoyed the Wavelength tour so much, we are looking to return to Australia and the GBR area again this year.

Wavelength is a great trip; but its snorkel only - your request was for snorkel/dive? Synergy II takes only 12 passengers - sailing/snorkelling costs a bit more than Wavelength though.

thanks for the information. I'll look into both wavelength and synergy. I think we want to do at least one intro dive. At least I do. Not sure about my husband! The trip is getting really close, finally. thanks to all of you for all the information that is available on this board - it has been invaluable in planning our trip.

Hi Sharon

It's been 5 years since we went out on Calypso. We would go with them again, it was a great trip. Excellent vessel for diving/snorkeling, excellent crew, and they catered to snorklers and divers alike. They also had "discover diving" sessions with an instructor for those who were curious about scuba diving

Cheers
