online travel

I've noticed that some online travel companies are quite cheaper than going directly through the hotel. Has anyone had good luck with any of the online travel companies? Any bad experiences? Thanks in advance!

Perhaps you should tell us what country you are looking at?

If you're talking about discount hotel reservation sites like www.wotif.com, you can get some pretty good deals. I did read a report from somebody who booked that way and then discovered that they could have obtained a better rate from the hotel in question on the day - but I think that would be the exception rather than the rule.

I was also looking at the travel mall website and great-barrier-reef.com. The rates were better than I could get from the hotel.

Yes this is true in most cases. Some good sites are:

www.poresorts.com.au
www.sunloverholiday.com.au
www.travel.com.au
www.quickbeds.com
www.ratestogo.com.au
www.travelshop.com.au

Have you used any of these sites to book hotels? I want to make sure the site I use is reputable. Thanks for your help!

We've used www.jasons.com for accommodation bookings. For general travel information, try www.travelmate.com.au which has a link to www.needitnow.com (au?) for discount accommodation.

Thank you for everyone's help. It seems that the hotel we are interested in have never heard of the travel mall or great-barrier-reef.com. It made me a little nervous to use them. Thanks for the other suggestions
