National Anthem

Please help??!! I am trying to put together a cassette tape on various national anthems. I would like to include Australia. I have a CD with national anthems which has "Walzting Matilda" listed as the Australian Anthem. Can this be so? If you know please tell.

As you can tell from Michaels short sharp response its a pretty ordinary little tune at that

"Australians all, let us rejoice,
For we are strong and free..."

Gee, I kind of like the Australian national anthem. At least it's got a tune with notes a normal human being can actually reach, unlike our own dear national anthem.

You're close Emily - but no cigar.

It's... "Australians all, let us rejoice for we are YOUNG and free
With golden soil
And wealth for toil
Our home is girt by sea
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare
In history's page at every stage
ADVANCE AUSTALIA FAIR
In joyful strains then let us sing
ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR.

There are two more stanzas but hardly anybody knows the words and they are not usually played. Humming the tune of the first verse will get you through.

As a previous poster said it's a pretty ordinary little tune.

When I'm overseas I've always found the tune of Waltzing Matilda will bring a tear to my eye even though the words have no relevance to present day Australia.

Whilst I can't speak for the nation obviously...I have found most Australians identify with Waltzing Matilda...especially when they are far away from our country
