Dgentrysim: No I don't think so. This was over 30 years ago. Mainly I remember that the museum had lots of cool Battle of Britain stuff (this was just about the time the "Battle of Britain" movie was released). We didn't go into Blighs' house, just saw the sign outside the place as we were walking to the museum. If I remember correctly, it was just about across the street from the museum (not quite sure about that though - it WAS a longgggggg time ago now).

I can't help you on Mutiny on the Bounty museums but I can help you (or try to explain) your other problem.

<<Also....I have been trying to post a message under the "Australia & the pacific" - text - Tahiti forum but every message I have sent winds up under the "Australia & the pacific"forum which has more to do with Australia not tahiti/moorea. Can someone explain how I can do it? >>

I was trying to post a question for my sister on Amsterdam. First I went to the forum Europe, then to the Topic Netherlands, and then searched for Amsterdam. They all came but my question always turned up under Europe! I tried just Europe and Netherlands, Europe and Amsterdam but nothing worked. I ended up with four questions on the same subject under Europe.

Eventually I got a post asking what was going on. I apologized and tried to explain what I was trying to do. Several kind souls told me it couldn't be done; that everything would come under Europe. With the hundreds of questions coming in, Í found that my question very quickly became No. 20, 35, 50 or right off the screen.

Knowing this I would suggest you go to Australia where all these questions are posted, and the go to the countries listed on the right side and choose Tahiti. Then try a search (to the left) for Bounty or Mutiny on the Bounty and see what comes up. But if you post a question, expect it to come up under Australia. Others may have better explanations.

You are getting excellent feedback from Australian authors as I have, and you will find most are very kind. You might find eventually (once you have a lot of answers) that they will go off on a tangent. These tangents are usually 1) informative 2) funny or 3) puzzling to an outsider. But they are good.

Good luck.

As far as I know the rudder is it. As for the "sextant", do you mean the chronograph? By the American I think you mean Folger, who Adams gave the chronograph so it could be presented to the British as proof of their identity. The chronograph is in the Royal Observatory.

In the launch Bligh was supposed to have been left both compass and sextent.

http://library.puc.edu/pitcairn/bounty/launch.shtml

I don't know if that's the compass or not, but the sextent Bligh had was supposed to have been Fletcher Christian's. I believe I recently saw somewhere where there is a Bounty sextant in the Greenwhich Maritime Museum down the hill from the observatory, but don't know if it's the same one or not. Pitcairn stamps show artifacts including the chronograph, the anchor and Adam's bible. (which I imagine is in the hands of descendents on Pitcairn)

Just found out I'm going to Tahiti (Windstar) in two weeks. Of course I came to Fodor's for tips, etc. Noted the Horwitz book - I'll get it ASAP. Are there any others travelling on Windstar the 26th? Would like to know about whether they accept US $$ for the taxi from the airport to the ship.

There is a wonderful site for preserving out-of-print books -
www.gutenberg.net.
I did a quick search for "Bligh" and found nothing, but Captain Cook's original journal is there, along with an early settler Watkins Tench's journal, and you may find these interesting.

Am not sure if the Museum of Sydney has been mentioned. It's around the corner from the Intercontinental Hotel(behind Circular Quay) and has lots of original documents.
