Moorea Hotel: Bali Hai or Pakroyal Beachcomber

We are going to Moorea from October 1-12

Can't decide between a beach bungalow at the Bali Hai Hotel or an AC/Room at the Beachcomber. Is it REAL hot an muggy at night without AC?

Also, please comment on the beach, scenery and food at each resort. Thanks.

We stayed at the Bali Hai in October '98 and visited the Park Royal while on the island. The weather in October is not that hot (80's during the day and 79's at night). We were very comfortable with just the paddle fan in our room...but we were also in an overwater bungalow which tends to be a little cooler. Opt for the overwater at the Bali Hai if you can afford the extra $$. The Park Royal is very fancy and much like resorts in the US. The Bali Hai is informal and more polynesian.

The beach at the Bali Hai is nice but not large but there were never more than 20 people on the beach at any time. The Park Royal beach is larger. Oh yes, the entire complex at the Park Royal looked man-made...very manicured. I guess it depends on what you're looking for because the 2 hotels are very different. We were looking for someplace informal and relaxed and neat/clean but not luxury...that's the Bali Hai. If you want luxury, definitely opt for the Park Royal.

We did not eat at the Park Royal. The food at the Bali Hai was good but we also opted to eat out 4 of the 7 nights we were there. The food outside the hotel was defnitely better. Nearby restaurants will pick you up and return you to your hotel as part of your meal cost.

Email me if you'd like more information. Whichever hotel you select, you'll have a wonderful time.

Roger

The Bali Hai is a better choice. Open the windows and hear the sounds. That is
part of the charm of the islands. Also, as for a room location with maximum breeze.

We visited FP in March(their summer) and found it to be relatively nice. We stayed at the parkroyal properties on BB and Moorea and found that the ceiling fan and open windows were just fine. Do yourself a favor and stay in beach bungalow or over water. Parkroyal was very nice and yet a relaxed atmosphere. I found the hotel staff friendly and not obtrusive. I can not tell you anything about the other properties.
The Bali Hai Hotel was one of the first hotel chains on the islands of Tahiti. They are an older hotel type hotel but with lots of the old Polynesian flavor. The Parkroyal Hotel is new with in the last 3 years and is a 5 star resort. It is a much larger property and has much more deluxe accommodations. It all depends on your budget and your tastes! Pleas feel free to email me with and further questions you may have. I have been traveling and booking preferred guest to the islands for the past 17 years and my favorite place still to visit.

Just stayed at Hotel Bali Hai on Moorea this past February. Stayed in one of the beachfront bungalows. They now have A/C. If need further info, please e-mail. Have stayed there 3 times and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.
We stayed at the ParkRoyal in June of 1998. Sorry, but I disagree with Roger. It is nothing like a resort in the US. While it is the largest resort on the Island it is very Polynesian. We stayed in an overwater bungalow. If you can, spend the extra money, it is definitely worth it. While the beach bungalows are about 10 steps from the lagoon the over water bungalows have a different feel. There is nothing better than opening the sliding glass doors and jumping into the lagoon for a morning swim. Roger is right, the beaches all around the resort are manmade, but it does not have that "feel". The Parkroyal won an environmental award for dredging the entire area and preserving the land. AC was not needed, ceiling fans were enough. However, we were there in June, which is their winter. The food at the resort was very good and very very expensive. However, there are some very good restaurants outside of the resort. We never saw anyone on the beach. Everyone is either in their bungalows, on the deck, touring the island or in the lagoon. The snorkeling was incredible. We did see the Bali Hai and it looked very very nice, but we did not eat there. If I may suggest, if you have that much time to spend in French Polynesia, go to Bora Bora. It is the most beautiful island I have ever seen. Very different from Moorea. We did both and it was the most incredible vacation we every had. If you want more info, feel free to E-mail me.

One of the responses above from "Coral" said that the Parkroyal on Bali Hai is only three years old - this is incorrect - I was there 8 years ago and the Parkroyal was there! ~And that person said they had been booking travel for 17 years!

I am sorry, my last reply referenced "the Parkroyal on Bali Hai" I meant to say, "the Parkroyal on Moorea." I am leaving this weekend to stay at Bali Hai for a week - guess I have vacation on the mind!
