Milford Sound Day Trip

Can anyone recommend a company that does a good day trip to Milford Sound from Queenstown?

Have you thought about renting a car, and driving down to Milford Sound, so many interesting things to stop & see enroute. I guess it all depends on whether you are comfortable with driving on the left hand side of the road. Sorry I can't help with the name of an operator out of Christchurch, perhaps you can sus one via www.purenz.com

We did an all an day combination flightseeing/cruise tour from Queenstown. The flight over and back was fantastic - you could almost reach out and touch the passing rocks and glaciers. The aerial views of the mountains and valleys was spectacular. Once at Milford Sound the tour included a cruise (with lunch (just "OK&quot. All in all it was a very memorable trip. There were several tour companies operating at the airport that offered essentially the same type of trip. You can also book the tour at one of several places in town.

We did the day trip to Milford Sound with Fiordland Travel. They picked us up (about 7.00am) at our hotel and we drove as far as Te Anau where we had time for a coffee. Lunch was included (I think we had to pay a little extra). I wouldn't consider driving. It is a long, long day and the drivers are experienced. Also you get to appreciate the stunning scenery with glass roofed coaches. One thing I wish we had done was fly back to Queenstown. I don't know the cost, but I would have paid it. Not only would you get a once-in-a-lifetime experience flying over Milford Sound and the fantastic Southern Alps, but you avoid the very long drive back. We were dropped off at our hotel around 7.00pm or later. Hope this helps and have a great trip!
