Milford or Doubtful

Hi there
My family of 4 (12 y.o. & 8 y.o.) are very excited about our upcoming trip to the South Island in early January. We are trying to work out whether to book Milford or Doubtful Sound. We will be in Te Anau for 2 nights and have our own car.

Another question, I believe your sandflies can be bad, any recommendation what insect repellent to purchase as my daughter suffers from bites.

Thanks for your time & help.

The Milford cruise is usually about two hours; the Doubtful Sound much longer - from memory it took almost all day. That may be too long for children. Last time we did the Doubtful Sound cruise it involved a tour of a power generating plant, a bus trip and two different boat trips.

Sandfly bites can be very nasty, they seem to love me. Covering up is the best idea, long sleeves and trousers etc but if it's too hot to do that, try Bushman Repellent (in a bright green container). Another product I've had recommended but haven't tried is 'The Locals'. Vitamin B has also been suggested to me. If your daughter is bitten, don't hesitate to go into a chemist and they can give her products to help with the inflammation and itchiness.
