Melbourne Question--
I know I have posted before regarding hotels--- but need to make a FINAL decision- as I arrive in Melbourne (last city of my honeymoon) on the 17th.
We are between Sofitel, Langham, and Crown Promenade.
From these 3 (all comparable in price)- which is the best located in an area to walk around shops, boutiques, etc. By restaurants, cafes, etc.
We are not huge museum people so I don't mind if I am not right near all of the museum's- we will travel to a Must See museum.
Also, I am a HUGE tennis fan (hence chose to come to Melbourne for Australian Open)-- would any tennis players likely be staying in these hotels?? Where do the players tend to stay?? (I am from NY so this may seem like a weird question in Australia- but in NY there are like hot-spots to spot people).
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Of the 3 hotels you have chosen only The Sofitel meets your requirements. My suggestion is The Como Hotel in Chapel Street South Yarra. http://www.mirvachotels.com/como-melbourne. It is pure luxury and Chapel Street has the best shopping in Melbourne. Also you are on a tramline that takes you into the City in approx 15 minutes. The beauty of The Como is that most celebrities stay there. I think due to the financial crisis, that they are doing specials on rooms. The Rod Laver Arena is very close by where the Australian Open is played. Southbank where your other choices are located is where the Casino is located. That's about all that is worth seeing.

Andre Agassi used to stay at the Como, but he no longer plays. Crown Casino is a big favourite (Federer), Park Hyatt and Grand Hyatt are also in the mix but there are so many players they tend to spread them selves around. They eat at Rockpool and the Casino eateries (Andy Roddick is a big gambler) and Donovans is also a favourite. The Williams sisters usually shop on Chapel Street Prahran. The Langham is one of the best hotels in town and the best located for your criteria, but Sofitel is closer to Tennis Centre. Crown Promenade is an excellent hotel, but the furtherest from the Tennis.

Unlike New York you will be able to walk to the Tennis from any of the hotels you choose. A stroll along the banks of the Yarra. Also make sure you attend a night session at Rod Laver Arena. It is a sports experience not to be missed.
