Melbourne lodging locations

Hello

I have booked a room at the Stamford Plaza unless I find something better. It's on Little Collins Street.

The rates seem reasonable, under 200 USD a night (I guess that is under 275AUD a night) for a studio suite which basically means a big bedroom with a separate yet open plan living room area.

Is that a good location? Walkable to lots of things? Will it seem like a cold sterile business district? I guess as long as I can easily walk to charming neighborhoods and this area isn't totally dead at night that's a good sign.

Thank you

It's a very convenient location, close to shops, restaurants, Federation Square and other attractions (I mentioned others in your "Hotel areas in Sydney" post).

Did you check Trip Advisor reviews?

It will be quiet at night. In between 2 tram streets in Bourke and Collins streets so you'll be able to get around easily - 10 mins walk from Bourke street mall

We just got back from there ... excellent location ... walkable and access to trams to get to the Yarra River waterfront (our favorite spot) and near the many famous graffiti alleys.
We stayed in the Ibis one block down Little Collins.
There's an interesting little square nearby at the corner of Little Collins and Elizabeth where on several evenings there was a busker performing music, people dancing, and a large number sitting in the small mini-amphitheater-like stepped area watching.

We're just beginning to post our trip report ... only parts 1 & 2 are done, many more (incl. Melbourne) to come at http://leebruch.blogspot.com/2017/10...-overview.html

elbegewa- I can't think of what square you mean - there's none on the corner of little Collins and Elizabeth - did you mean swanston street ?
Interesting report so far

Northie ... yes, you're right .. Little Collins & Swanston
Its not big, just a wide spot in the sidewalk and a little plaza with steps at the NE side of the intersection

Hello flygirl. When I was in Melbourne, I spent 5 days at the Oaks on Collins and enjoyed 5 wonderful days with my wife thanks to the kindness of the staff. The city is incredible. We really liked it.
This is their web: https://oaksoncollins.com
We hope to make a family trip (with our kids) soon. I hope this helps you. Best Regards!!!
