Melbourne Hotel during the Australia Open

We are very excited about coming to Melbourne for the Australia Open!! Already purchased plane and tennis tickets!!!!

Hotel accomodations are puzzling. We reserved at the Best Western Atlantis from Jan 20th through the 28th but it does look like a place we would get tired of because of so many days. The Hilton South Warf is $1000-1500 more but seems to be nicer. Is it worth it?

Any advice? Should we tray to stay in an apartment???

I'd stay in an apartment, but then I'm not a fan of chain hotels.

I recently stayed at Milano Apartments and it was well located and reasonably priced, that said, they all jack their prices up during sporting events.

I checked the Milano Apts, they are sold out except for a 28 day stay. We have done apartments in Paris, Madrid and Barcelona and while they work well for our family of 4 this time is just my husband and I and we want the beds made and maybe breakfast because we will have a lot of activity....want a restful place with really good beds.

How about a bed and breakfast? There is one in Kilda (Fountain Terrace) and one in South Yarra & Toorak (Coterville) that sound apealining....specially the neighborhoods they are in.

Can't help you with B & Bs in Melbourne, I stay with friends or hotels/apts if my trip is business.

In St Kilda, I've stayed at Urban Hotel, it was close to the tram and restaurants. Plus they give you a free pass for the baths across the road. It's a short tram ride into the city.

If you are interested in inner city neighbourhoods, I'd also consider Carlton and Fitzroy.

A friend stayed at Fountain Terrace a couple of years ago and liked it.

Nearest hotel is probably the Langham (f that's what it's still called). Even that may not be elderly mum walking distance.

But....trams go from the city (and perhaps other places) right to the entrance - so a city hotel near a tram stop may work. Or you could get a taxi.

Pretty much whatever way you go there will be some walking (and stairs within the venues). A day at the tennis can be very tiring.
