Melbourne GTG - 6 or 7 November 2024
Wandering Fodorite Mrwunrfl will be in town for the Melbourne Cup🏇🧲 & we thought it would be a great opportunity for a GTG to welcome him to Australia & catch up with local & any other visiting Fodorites.
Options 6th or 7th November - Lunch or Dinner - Casual.
Venue - TBA but probably somewhere in the CBD as MrW staying in the city. Looking for somewhere quiet so we can chat without megaphones.
So far we have Mrwunrfl, Counter Clifton & me. Were ok for either day, either meal.
And wed love to see as many of you as can make it.
Interested? Let us know your preference for day & time - and well pick the most popular.
Bonus Points if you can suggest a good venue.

Outside of the CBD would be good with free parking for y'all. Am quite willing to spend $AU70 for roundtrip taxi fare, however far from CBD that gets me. That would be the ~cost of a 1-day car rental, but I would rather spend it on a taxi and not have to drive on the wrong side of the road. I assume there will be a taxi stand at my hotel.

I'll have our car handy but I'll probably come by public transport if it's in the CBD, St. Kilda, Carlton sort of places. Free parking is a myth! (lol)... No, but really, I can drive or do a bus/train, both easy, depending on where everyone decides.
I've been soliciting and researching advice on places where you can still hear each other during the meal rush and there are quite a few possibilities once you include the inner burbs.. Pretty much every sort of cuisine and price range as well. A place like David's in Prahran might be fun.
ps, maybe save that taxi fare on something better. Melbourne has the most extensive tram network in the world. It's pretty easy to get around. Happy to meet up somewhere central and help get the necessary Myki transport card and navigate the system which is generally clean and safe. All part of the Melbourne experience.
