Have decided to get a shuttle bus from airport to Melbourne city and would now like some reasonable price hotel/motel accommodation recommendations Also for rental car to pick up from Melbourne city.

If you are to stay in the central part of Melbourne, you will be staying in hotel accommodation. What do you mean by 'reasonable'?

What areas in the CBD would be considered desirable to stay in?

Is the rental car to drive to another destination or for day trips because you certainly don't need one to look around the city?

Thanks for the replies. I should have been more specific. We are in Melbourne for one night only then touring around Victoria for 10 days.
Round $150 per night for accommodation.
Thought we would find a rental car the next day. Dropping off rental car back at the same place.

Hi, I wouldn't normally recommend this place as people are usually looking for more up market accom that costs a bit more.
However based upon your description and cost the Albert Heights Apartments offer good value. They are just a few mins walk fron CBD etc and are close to the tram route.
This is not a Boutique hotel, however it does offer good value.
If you only want 1 night you may get somewhere equally suitable on www.wotif.com.
As for the rental car, we hired one from the hotel recomendations and it was delivered and picked up from the hotel.
