Melbourne & Sydney serviced apartments

We are planning to visit both Melbourne and Sydney and would like to stay at short term apartments in each city. We have researched Melbourne for the Alto and various Quest apartments. We are looking for references from fellow travelers for apartments in the CBD of either city.

Have a look at the Medina Group of properties. They have serviced apartment buildings in the CBD of both cities. Also worth a look are the Saville Suites as well as the Somerset Group. There are lots of serviced apartments in both cities. It would probably be helpful if you gave us an idea of which area of the city you are interested in.
Cheers

There's also Quest apartments in various CBD locations in Melbourne and Quay West (which I love & stay in as often as possible) which is at Southgate. it's a Mirvac group property: www.mirvachotels.com.au. Do you have a budget in mind?

I also like the Quay West properties in both Sydney and Melbourne. However, they are not cheap. Sometimes you can pick up a good deal on them with www.wotif.com.au.

We stayed at the Pacific International suites in Sydney in 2002... quite near the Mall(AMP tower i think)... central station, a supermarket, a scifi book store(the best part!)... and very near the bridge that leads to Cockle bay Wharf and on to Harbourside shopping centre...

After much research, we are staying at the Meriton Rialto in Sydney in August. The Medina I was interested in was sold out for the apartment I wanted so I never really looked closely at it. The Quay West in Sydney was extremely expensive, but everyone seems to love it (but I am not willing to spend $675 per night, compared to the $299 I am spending on a 3 bedroom apartment at the Meriton Rialto). Since I have not been yet, I cannot give a report, just saying this was my choice based on a variety of factors (location, access to mass transit, price, potential noise, indoor pool, experience dealing with the property, reviews on message boards, lack of anticipated construction).

I too am looking for an apartment in Melbourne so I will be interested to hear more suggestions.

There was a very positive review of the Meriton Rialto apartments in Sydney on Trip Advisor this week.

Check out Kirribilli Apartments => http://www.kirribilli.com/

We've booked a 1 bedroom apt for A$130/night; great location. We've stayed in the Alfred & Milson apt blocks before.

They will discount for stays > 3 nights I believe.

Cheers.

Hi Bob & Sue,
I've stayed at the Saville in Little Collins St., and another (forget the name) down the bottom of Swanston St - both excellent vfm & well located.

This link might be useful for you:

We have just recently stayed at the Medina apartments in Melbourne and found them really nice and well equipped within easy walking distance to the centre of town.

You might want to check out www.furnishedrentals.com - they have a good selection of apartments that you can rent directly from the owner or a management company. I recently stayed with a company called WorldApart.com.au and we stayed in Sydney CBD (just behind The Rocks). The location was good, the apartment was unreal and the price was impressive. They are definately worth checking out.

Nire, what was the name of your property? I like the Rocks, but don't know which property you stayed in. Thanks.

We stayed at the Knightsbridge Apartments in East Melbourne. Very conveniently located just a couple of tram stops from the CBD, but also to everything east and south. And the advantage of East Melbourne over downtown is quiet. Not very charming, but clean, efficient, and modern, with most facilities (drugstore, newsagent, convenience store, full supermarket) just a few blocks away. Charming, interesting blocks too. Full bath, not just a shower. Adequate kitchen. TV, comfortable new bed. I think we paid AUD$110 a night, on a bit of a discount.

We stayed in the Highgate Apartment Building (127 Kent Street). The view was amazing as we were facing the Harbour Bridge & the Opera House...the building had a gym, pool, parking and the concierge were really helpful. There are restaurants in The Rocks & Circular Quay that you can walk to (about 10 minutes) and there is a supermarket at Wynyard Train Station. You can also walk down to Cockle Bay / Darling Harbour in about 20 minutes. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment and it had a full kitchen, lounge area, dining area, balcony and bathroom. It was a great place to stay & we were there for 3 months. If you want any other info, just let me know.

I recently stayed at Quay West at Southgate in Melbourne and I was impressed. It was a roomy 1 br apartment with adjoining lounge and dining area separate from the br, and a kitchen with all cooking facilities - ideal for self-catering - modern and streamlined. Not that you need a full kitchen, as it's located right on Southbank which offers a choice of many restaurants and walks out on to the Yarra River. I managed to secure a rate in the low $200 mark - so push for their best price when you book.
