And look up "employment services" or similar in theYellow Pages, for agencies that provide temporary staff to employers. A lot of job vacancies don't make it into the newspaper classifieds.

mvlv if you are a professional, or have a qualification also try looking at the Australian web sites for your union or professional Organisation.
Just as an example, librarians generally now check the Library Association of Australia web site before any other resource as the vast majority of vacancies are now advertised there rather than in any newspaper.
Some of these vacancies will specify who can apply - i.e. must be an Australian citizen - and this also saves a lot of hunting around.
