last minute questions

Just when I think I have the trip "planned"..Not sure now if we want to stay outside of Cairns, as I am shying away from renting a car. Sounds like our best bet would be to base in Port Douglas.Have heard from this site that Hibiscus Gardens is great, and also the "Peninsula"??How can I get ashold of them? Are there any good Bed/beakfasts in town?

also, we planned to go to the Koala Park Sanctuary outside of Sydney so we could cuddle a Koala, is that not possible these days??
Once again, thanks for everything. I read this several times throughout the day!!

there are several shuttle companies that will take you from cairns to port douglas for about $26 one way (AUS). I can't speak from experience about Cairns (seemed like a bigish town), but Port Douglas is lovely and small with lots of restaurants, a lovely beach and definitely managable on foot. We liked the Hibiscus Gardens, don't know abou the Peninsula, didn't see any B and B's. At Featherdale Park outside Sydney you can pet a koala and have your picture taken next to one, but my understanding is that you can't hold one in the country anymore.

There is a nice little wildlife park south of Sydney called Symbio which you might like to try. They have many native animals, including koalas. I haven't been there for a number of years but last time we visited we were able to feed kangeroos and cuddle a koala.

Hi,

I was at Featherdale Wildlife Park in early April. You can only get your picture taken with a koala. You cannot hold one because it stresses them out. That's what I was told.

Enjoy Australia
