Kimberley Region and the NT
Considering a trip in and around Darwin and the Kimberley. Would like to include a visit to the Bungle Bungles if accommodations are available. Was originally considering arriving in NT around the 1st of Sept which would put us in the Bungle Bungles around the 11th-12th of Sept. In reading about the Kimberley, I found the following remarks regarding visiting in Sept (The weather warms up again in late August/September, tourist numbers drop, but by then all the water is gone and the land is brown and dusty.). Was wondering if anyone has visited this area around this time and is it worthwhile to go then. Can't get there much earlier this year and would then have to put it off until 2012 if we needed to only go during May or June. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We've been 2 times in August and found the Kimberley to be beautiful at that time of year. Gorges still had water and river crossings were still exciting. ON one trip nights were COLD (had to sleep with many layers) the other time nights were uncomfortably hot.

dkw: again, thanks for the response. do you remember the car company you used for your bookings?
alanJG: thanks for the link.
wasn't as concerned about the actual temperatures in the Kimberley but whether it's too dry to visit in September to actually appreciate the region.
