Islands oh Islands but which one?
OK gang, you've got a great deal of experience out there. I've never been to Fiji but would like, on a fairly good budget (not Vatulele yet!) go to one of the islands but on reading your comments it seems its the Manamanucas/Yasawas vs the Eastern/Northern Islands.
I like the look of: Matamanoa, Mana, Navini & Treasure. But I also like the look of Matangi, Cousteau, Moody's (too expensive I think) and Taveuni.
So what am I looking for?
Great white beaches with turquoise water
Great snorkelling and/or diving
Variety of activities (don't need tv)
Great food and great Fijian experience not the rehashed anglo saxon "try to be Fijian but not pulling it off".
Is this possible?
I hope so.
Let's here soon!
Many thanks

In the Mamanucas I'd go for either Navini, Matamanoa or Tokoriki. Mana is too big and Treasure is too crammed onto the island. Matangi is fabulous - but the weather up north is not as reliable depending on the time of year. I'd probably opt for Matangi or Navini overall.

Bula Lisa,
You made have decided where you will go by now, but I just thought I would let you know my experience. I just returned from Fiji last week. We decided on Taveuni as there is so much to do and of course relax as well. We loved it, from the diving, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, biking.....you name it we did it. We stayed at Taveuni Palms, which was amazing! If you are looking for the Fiji experience, you will for sure get it here as they will do whatever you want and spoil you for your entire stay. We had our own home on 2 1/2 acres all to ourselves, our own private pool right on the ocean and the food, yum is all I have to say about that. Such a variety of tastes and dining locations. We did "barefoot on the beach", by the pool. It was terrific. So, my thoughts to you are for sure Taveuni and if you are looking for a spot to stay, Taveuni Palms is the place. Their website is www.taveunipalms.com
You can also find lots of info on Taveuni on the web. Good Luck and safe travels.Shell
