Island Day Trip from Port Douglas/Cairns

We are looking to take a day trip to an island while we are staying in Port Douglas. We have looked into Green & Fitzroy island. We would like to relax on a nice, quiet beach and maybe snorkel from the shore.

Any recommendations?

Green is small and very crowded. If you go there for the day make sure you watch the tide tables because snorkeling on Green Island is impossible during low tide.

Jake,
from memory, Fitzroy Island does not have sandy beaches, it is all coral (like medium sized pebbles). Green Island is also closer to the mainland than Fitzroy.
Kay

Hi Jake

In March of this year we went to Green Island from Palm Cove. We took the Green Island boat out - enjoyed the day wandering on the beach, snorkeling, and having a cool drink at the outdoor bar. We enjoyed it and, although many said that Green Island was crowded, we did not find it to be particularly crowded when we were there. We completely enjoyed our time in Palm Cove and the GBR.
