Hotel help in Queenstown

We are confused as to which hotel to stay at in Queenstown. We are looking for something centrally located with a nice view. We are open in terms of budget.
Thinking about the St. Moritz but I have read some bad reviews.

Last month we stayed at the Heritage Queenstown. We had a gorgeous view of the lake. It is an easy walk to town, or there is a free bus that goes from the hotel to downtown (and back) provided by the hotel. The walk to town is downhill, so we walked to town and took the bus back. I would definitely recommend this place. Good luck! =)

I've stayed at the St Moritz and found it excellent value: I paid a discounted rate (165 NZD) and got a large suite with living room, bedroom, full kitchen (which even had a washing machine). Not much of a view though on Level 2 (you need to be higher). The reviews at Tripadvisor.com seem fairly accurate to me. I suspect it all depends on which room you get and whether you encounter a bus tour. A smaller hotel might be more predictable.

We stayed at the Outrigger at the Beacon and it was very close to downtown with excellent views of the lake. Of not all rooms face the lake. The accomodations and fresh baked bread were wonderful

Bisgirl & CDID,

just so there's no confusion, there's been a "rebranding" of the Outrigger and it's now a Peppers property (in case anyone was looking for Outrigger and wondering what happened!)

We go over to ski every year and for the past two years have been really happy with The Whistler. Two minute walk to town, medium views of the lake but you get a great view of the mountains and the gondola. You can also watch the paragliders coming down the mountain as they land in the field in front of your balcony.
The apartments are very modern and have everything you could want for comfort and kitchen facilities.
We will be going back this August. Prices are very reasonable too.

Highly recommend the Sofitel...great location, large rooms, good restaurant and bar. Brand new.
