We got into AKL about 5 AM from LAX, and had plenty of time to walk to the domestic terminal to get a flight to QT at 7:30.

Are you going on AirNZ for both flights? If so, you could check with them. I did, and was told there was no problem with the connection.

You can be assured that if your flight to AKL is late (which is improbable), there are plenty of flights to DUD later.

Unless your flight is seriously delayed, you should have no problem. I do think you have to go thru customs and agriculture before leaving the international terminal, though. I found it better to walk over to the domestic terminal (grabbing a cart).

If travelling on Air NZ you can check your baggage in for domestic at the international terminal. This is just after you clear customs.

Much easier than lugging it over to the domestic terminal.
