Help me choose among these Sydney hotels, please

My husband and I are traveling for the first itme to New Zealand and Australia. I have come up with these options for 3 nights March. They are listed in order of my current preference; total price is in USD. All refundable bookings. We will not have a car.

Would love to hear your pros and cons; and any other suggestions are also welcomed!

The Rendezvous Hotel Sydney The Rocks -- $750 no breakfast

Rec on this board, so that’s a plus. Location looks great; price also seems great. Anything I am missing??

Ovolo Woolloomooloo -- $1,100 incl continental breakfast, daily happy hour, snacks in room

Great reviews, looks like a fun experience. About a mile walk to central CBD (certainly do-able for us, but not ideal).

Intercontinental -- $1350 partial harbor view including breakfast

Reliable, high-quality experience. Downside is price but could lower it if I book a city view instead. Is there any reason this room is worth $600 more than the Rendezvous?

Simpsom’s of Potts Point -- $700 incl continental breakfast

Concerned about location, although when in cities we sometimes enjoy staying in areas with a neighborhood vibe.

Thank you!

GinnyJo - we stayed at the Rendezvous, and were very happy with it.

our room had a sitting room and kitchen which we found very useful, and it's in a vey convenient location.

Thanks, annhig. I recall seeing one of your posts about staying at the Rendezvous, and that's how I knew it existed. Appreciate your confirming your satisfaction with it. Fodorites like you are the best!

thanks, GinnyJo.

We also liked the look of the hotel opposite, The Harbour Rocks, though it is a bit more expensive. [i tried to link it but got a load of gobbledygook]

it has a very nicely appointed bar that looks like a library in a gentleman's club.

Stay at The Rocks.

Good luck beating that location.

And at the Rendezvous. Why pay $450 per for the same thing you'd get at $250 per?

Thanks, Ann.

Russ -- that's the same question I was asking myself -- thought there might be a catch...

Ginny,

the only thing I would say is that the furnishings in our room were a tad "tired". Not falling apart, nothing like that, but it looked like a room that was next in line for a lick of paint. but it was perfectly clean, the bathroom was fine, [I can't remember it so it must have been!] and everything worked.

like Russ says, why pay almost twice as much for more or less the same thing?
