Hawaii - When NOT to go.

I know this must have been asked a besillion times, but, is there a bad, or less good time to go to the islands? Rainy season? Windy? Etc. is there a "best" time to go? And please don't say summer.

Hello Doubledomer.. You might want to post this on the US travel boards. Although Hawaii, logically should be listed in the Pacific group.. questions are always posted on the US forum. Australia and the Pacific tends to be New Zealand, Fiji etc.

Anytime is a good time to come to Hawaii! It was sunny and 80' today. The beaches on the south side of the island were packed with swimmers, and the north shore had lots of sightseerers due to the big waves. The odds of rain are a higher dec -april, the crowds are less in the fall, but really you just have to be very unlucky to come when you won't have mostly sunny days on at least one part of any island.

Hi DD,
We've spent a week each January for the past 7 years on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. 4 years no rain; 1 year part of 2 days rain and 1 year 1 full day and 2 part days. Each of the islands has a sunny side. Temperature always in the low 80's.
Sometime the surf is big enough in the winter that the beach is closed for swimming.

I stayed in Waikiki in early May 2003.
The weather was pretty good ... balmy tropical temperatures at night. Sunny and hot enough for swimming during the day.
One of the days had the occasional passing shower but certainly not enough to put us out by any means.

Crowds were reasonably low when we visited as well but not sure if thats the norm or if the SARS scare and war were affecting tourism at the time.

Big bonus was that the plane was all but empty so snatching a middle row was easy !!!!!
