Has anyone done the heli-hike?

I did a heli-hike on Franz Josef in NZ last year through the Helicopter Line. It was a great experience - albeit a bit scary when you're climbing around on the glacier. After a while, you get a feel for it and are more comfortable. I highly recommend it.

The following is an excerpt from my NZ 2002 trip report, when we took a helihike. We'd tried to take the helihike on previous visits, but the weather never cooperated.
September 25, 2002 ? Fox Glacier
We woke to the prettiest day we?d ever seen in our four visits to the glaciers. After breakfast we checked with the Alpine Guides booth and were told the 9 am helihike was a go! According to our guide Karen, this was the best weather they had seen in four months. So, we donned wool socks and boots and were given instructions on how to get on and off the helicopter, etc. We were divided into small groups, flown up to the glacier and deposited on the ice with a guide. We then donned crampons and spent the next two hours exploring the glacier. It was a lot of fun, and the highlight of our trip. The cost of the 2.5 hour helihike was NZ $195 per person (about $94) and worth every penny!
