GBR Island Suggestions
I need suggestions as to what island to visit. We were originally going to go to Green Island but I haven't received any positive feedback about it. I've never been to Australia so I'm not sure what islands are worth visiting. We are kind of on a limited budget so we can't afford Lizard Island or the such. It's for our honeymoon so we want to stay at a nice place with good snokeling and food but again we don't want to break the bank. Any suggestions? Any comments on Dunk Island or Hamilton Island? Thank you ...

There are lots of different islands which give you all sorts of things. Perhaps you might like Linderman Island which has a Club Med on it. Hamilton has all sorts of accommodations but is on the more commercial side of things. Club Crocodile on Long Island. Brampton which is quieter Hayman which is listed as one of the top 10 islands in the world. Do a search for Whitsundays Islands and you should come up with quite a few of them around that area. If you are on a limited budget then why not stay at Airlie Beach at one of the great accommodation places and take day trips to the various islands.
Then there is Hinchinbrook, Dunk, Bedarra which is further north but not quite as far as Cairns.
Actually for my preference I would stay somewhere in Port Douglas and take day trips in and around that area and out to Lizard for the day and also see if you can get a nice quiet boat trip up the coast, calling into some of the loveliest islands and bays you could find.
Alternatively there is a wonderful small boat trip which goes from Cairns down to Townsville and calls into some of the islands and beautiful coral cays on the way.
Also do a search of this site for ideas but make sure that you realize that there is one person on this site who insists in giving his tourist operation a plug at every opportunity. He/they are not the only operators in North queensland and you would be wise to note that. They are however one of the most expensive!

CR, Dunk is what you are looking for. O.K. There is no GREAT REEF right there, but you can take boats out to the reef from there. The food is excellent, your rooms are delightful, there are some very good walks through some wonderful forest. There is a friendly bar and the water surrounding Dunk is very good. As far as Islands go for people whom do not have $1800.00 AUD a night to throw around , Dunk is my pick. I stay there with my wife when I am not working, as I am one of those people who do not have the $1800.00 a night. However I also stay on every other Island in Australia reguarly when I am working.
You will have a wonderful honeymoon on Dunk. You get there either by flying out of Cairns or Townsville on a charter flight or an RPT flight. Charter goes when you want, RPT goes at set times. You can also drive to Mission Beach from either of the above cities and take the ferry across. If you decide to drive down to the ferry at Mission Beach you might as well go early in the morning and take the extra time to go have a look at Wallerman Falls. They are the longest single span water falls in Australia. Great place for a swim and the falls are just beautiful set in some of the very most pristine rainforest in the country.
[email protected]
Bez

http://www.coralprincesscruises.com/

This is the web site for this cruise company where you can check out what they have to offer.
I had friends who did this one and thought it was wonderful. There are many others available and I am too far out of date to list any really but there are plenty of brochures everwhere when you get there for just about everything imaginable.
This cruise is just a nice length and I neally book for it myself for next month but am waiting on a bigger holiday.
Have fun.
