Flight Packages...

It has been a long-standing rumor as I have traveled that there are travel packages of sorts when it comes to flights in the pacific area.

These rumors usually say something along the lines of: you can buy a ticket that is valid for a certain period of time, which provides an unlimited number of flights to and from a hub city to different cities in the Australia/Pacific are. Does this exists? Or am I crazy?

Also, any hints for seeing Aus, NZ, and Fiji? I have friends in all places, and potentially a lot of time.

Cheers!

No, it's not a rumor.

Several airlines offer South Pacific/Circle Pacific passes. United has one, offered through Star Alliance.

Yes, air-passes they are called but I'd still do my sums and Alliance have a calculator of sorts - nearly a uni course required by look of it! - http://www.pacificislandtravel.com/a..._airpass1.html

Air New Zealand have a coupons system - http://www.pacificislandtravel.com/a..._airpass1.html

Best Flights (always good to check with, well usually) show the Polynesian Pass too, but needs a manual of sorts too - http://www.bestflights.com.au/ns/fli...th_pacific.php

And then for a heap more:
http://www.pacificislands.com/air_pa...ir_passes.html

And for Australia:
Can't beat REX (no Dinosaur) but with good ol value - http://www.rex.com.au/Backpacker/default.aspx

And if using Melbourne as a base, check out www.tigerairways.com.au for great fares

And HINTS,
1. Don't get agro when you lose a post - so doing it again!
2. Consider where you're going to match getting best weather - southern areas November to April and north May to October as a rule of thumb, but leave top end[Darwin] preferably by end of September
3.Fiji
a. Main islands are a bit grotty but some reasonable inland tours[not cheap]
b. - use the Yasawa Flyer - they have 7-14 day passes so you can island hop in the Yasawas - http://www.awesomefiji.com/the-region-yasawaflyer.aspx or doing a bit more foot work you may be able to get out there cheaper and do the hops with locals.
c. Don't get into a http://kavaroot.com/Folklore/Fiji/jekishan_fiji.htm singsong session with real locals - it tastes rather errr - it's own mouth numbing taste that like a bad wine can get better near the end of the bottle or in this case the bucket or bowl.
Your innards and head will know if you had too much before the night is out.

4. NZ
a. when not at friends www.bbh.co.nz is a good guide to plenty of great hostels in NZ and www.bugpacific.com for more options.
b. www.intercitycoaches.co.nz for bus passes

5. Australia
a. you can drink tap water in most places, beers better and nearly just as cheap as bottled water and plenty of good wines in both NZ and Oz.
b. www.yha.com.au or www.bugaustralia.com when away from the friends.
c. www.greyhound.com.au or www.premierms.com.au for bus passes and www.railaustralia.com.au amd www.seat61.com for rail passes etc.
d. www.webjet.com.au for airfares generally and unless hoping for sales book well in advance for best priced tickets.
e.http://www.standbyrelocations.com/default.aspx for interesting alternate travelling/free accommodation - pull up just about anywhere & $2 pool entry for a hot shower or use free beach showers, and BBQs too.
f. National Parks for about $5/n also have reasonable facilities
and quite a few state forests are free.

www.travelmate.com.au for trip drive planning.

g. http://www.hotdockets.com.au/ for cheap eating if you're travelling with another anytime.
h. Free info[maybe a cuppa tea/coffee too] at Visitor Information Centres all around Australia and NZ - in fact a lot of what applies in Oz also applies over there too.

Country hotels can also be another reasonable value accommodation alternative to hostels at about $20 -40/n.

Plenty of destination info available on the net.
