Fiji for honeymoon questions...

We are planning our honeymoon to Fiji in June. I have a couple of questions.
Is June a good time of year? What is the water and weather like at that time? Also, we are concentrating on the Mamanuca Island group due to their convenience to Nadi. Any suggestions for a great place in the Mamanuca group? We so far like Tokoriki, muskey cove, beachcomber, Matamonoa... Help would be appreciated.
June is in the cooler, dryer part of the year. This should mean that the highs will be in the order of 80F and the lows in the order of 70F however I think a La Nina is still running and this might change the climate some and make it a little cooler. The humidity will be in the order of 70% with about 3 inches of rain for the month in the area of the Mamanucas. This is pleasant weather, but the ocean temperature will be a little cooler, perhaps 78F compared to 80F typical in May. This depends on water depth and location. Shallow sections without much current can be in the 80s. Light weight propolene or nylon suit will both provide sun protection, which is needed, some warmth, and protection against coral cuts. We have only cruised in the area and in the Tasawas so can't speak with authority on snorkeling at the resorts. However, I would anticipate that you will find the snorkeling conditions modest at best and the sea life in the juvenile class. This still can be enjoyable. The more remote the island the better it will be. I have not seen any sea snakes or lion fish in this area and only one small shark. There seems to be fewer danagerous currents in this area as compared to the north but Be Cautious.

Lynn - two years ago we spent a week at Matangi and then a week at Matamanoa. We were extremely disappointed in Matamanoa but then maybe we should have done the trip the other way around. Matamanoa resort is concentrated in a very small area so there is very little privacy. The bures are o.k. but you have to be careful which one you stay in. The garden units are just like attached motel units and the only place to sit is out in front with people walking by on the sidewalk all the time. Also, you can hear everything and I mean everything next door which goes for the bures also. Snorkeling was a big disappointment also. I would spend the extra money to go to Matangi or another island where there are not as many tourists at least for a honeymoon. You will love Fiji!!

Lynn-Matangi is my wife's favorite place in Fiji and a good value. A deluxe bure for 7 days including air from LAX is around $2,250 each. You can look them over at www.matangiisland.com. If that is over the budget, I would suggest you look at www.marlinbay.com. If a 7 day package including air is still in the order of $1550 each including air from LAX without diving, it is one of the best buys in Fiji for a honeymoon. We have spent time there and it is quite nice if you can get the honeymoon bure. You have pretty good snorkeling in both places from the beach.
