G'day Karel.
The weather at that time can be a little unsettled and already pretty hot in some areas.
That will limit your choices. There are plenty of coach tours, some all inclusive tours, to the 'most popular sites', but it will be more difficult to find many then that take you "off the beaten track".
As you are looking for something different, what are your interests and how much time do you have for a tour?

A month to 6 weeks earlier would also give you more choices.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Karel,
the same applies for WA unless you travel just around Perth and south of there.
Further north there is the added problem of possible cyclons....

Cheers,
Mike.
P.S. see ing you haven't got many answers here, try asking there: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/australianredcentre

Karel-
How old are you? I went on a Contiki tour last summer, which are for 18-35 year olds. We went from Cairns to Sydney and had a wonderful time. Check it out on contiki.com if you are within that age range. Absolutely fine to be alone as you will meet almost 50 people on the tour.
