Hey, nomadwoman, in case you haven't been reassured enough about the water and the salad, here's my comments (I'm a fellow touchy tummy). The water was great everywhere (although I did drink bottled in Port Douglas due to older warnings in I think Lonely Planet that you had to--the hotel said that the system had been redone and was good.) Didn't go to Adelaide
We were impressed that the field green salad was everywhere, even in out of the way places. Only got iceberg once. We loved the food in Australia, it was one of the best parts (well, everything was the best part!) The barramundi (fish) was everywhere and excellent, also the coral trout. My husband wants to set up a barramundi import business when he retires so he can eat it every day!! BTW, I don't drink the water in LA or some other US cities, and have a hard time in Europe, too, if the tap water has a lot of minerals. But I wasn't sick in Oz at all (except on the bumpy boat ride, but that's another problem!)
