Budget hotel near Sydney airport

We will need accomodation in Sydney on the night before we fly back to Canada. Are there any budget options near Sydney airport? We would like something with easy access to the city. We are on the red eye flight from Perth and will arrive in Sydney early in the morning. We will fly out of Sydney the next day to Canada in the afternoon. Therefore, we plan on leaving our luggage at the airport and spending our last day in Australia wondering around Sydney, going back to the airport hotel for a good nights sleep before our long flight home. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't that mean you have to travel back and forth to the airport twice? Or am I misunderstanding your dates? You are arriving in the AM on one day, and leaving in the PM on the day after, is that right?

So you will have to check in to the airport hotel (assuming they allow morning checkin), then go to town, return that evening, go back to town the next morning, and return to your flight the second afternoon?

Unless I have that wrong, I would think you'd be better off going into town and having a hotel there, then coming back the afternoon of your flight.

However, if that's what you want, there are a number of hotels at or near the airport. The cheapest, according to a quick peek at wotif.com.au, are Formule 1 Hotel Sydney Airport, Airport Sydney International Inn, and Hotel Ibis Sydney Airport. I haven't a clue about any of them.

I stayed at the Formule in Brisbane and it was comfortable and clean but is little more than a bed, TV and Bathroom - but for the price it cannot be beaten!

Having stayed at the Hotel Ibis Sydney Airport in July, I can recommend it. The rooms are very basic and small, but the beds and washroom facilities are good. The hotel offers a shuttle to and from the airport (both Domestic and Intl terminals). The Mascot train station is a 5-10 minute walk away, providing your requested direct route to downtown. This seems to fit your needs.

Depends how budget you want, Ibis when we stayed a long while back was aroun AUD 90 or something but was quite ok, it is nearer to domestic but they have free shuttle to both, if you try Asiaoz and go to the list and click on airport by suburb/location shows map where each one is, http://www.asiaoz.com/sydney_airport_hotels.html can't help on the Formulee though I 'think' it was one of their near Brisbane and it was quite ok and good value but no shuttle, don't know if same applies at Sydney, so think about that and the Ibis having a free shuttle
