Best for honeymooning and diving in Whitsundays?

Hi all -
We have begun researching for our August honeymoon. (4 weeks Australia and 2.5 in NZ.) We plan to spend a week on an island as the "luxury" time on the trip and hope to spend time diving. We are into activite.

It seems Lizard island is the most often recommended on the board for what we are looking for as honeymooners Do you all agree? It's more than we hoped to spend though...

We are also thinking about combining Lizard with Silky Oaks Lodge. Opinions on whether that is a good idea?

Thanks very much!

I your preamble you mention the Whitsundays - Lizard is not in the Whitsundays but about 500 klms to the north.
Hayman is probably the top island in the Whitsunday group. Do a search of the Whitsundays either on the web or on this site and/or Lizard Island and you can come up with quite a lot of information.

Hi Liz,

My fiance and I have had similiar questions so let me tell you what we decided on and why...

We coming from LA and then are going to New Zealand (Wellington 3N and Queenstown 3N) first and then to Syney (1 night stop before going to)
Haymen Island(3 nights) then off to Lizard (5 nights) bc it is the most secluded and romantic (perfect honeymoon destination)also right on the most beautiful part of the GBR then we are going to Sydney for 4 nights.

We were originally were going to Lizard (4), Silk Oaks(2) and Bedarra(3) but have sinced change our tune for several reasons.

First, for us, it was too much travel. However, I have heard wonderful things about Silk Oaks so if you can fit it in, I highly recomend it. Lizard is perfect and worth every penny. But we made our trip cheaper by skipping Baderra and going to Haymen instead.

I hope this helps. Have the best time.
Thanks to you both. I didn't realize Lizard wasn't part of the Whitsundays. My mistake.

I think we will probably either choose Lizard or Hayman. How nice it would be to do both though! We'll see...

No reason why you cannot go to both areas as it would not be hard to fly into one and then onto the other. Both areas are lovely but different and I am sure you would have a great time at both.

For a once in a lifetime experience I'd recommend Lizard Island for your honeymoon. It's been 10 months since I've returned and I still think about it quite a bit. Try for an Anchor Bay suite. It's actually nicer in person than reflected in their website. Plus I believe Lizard is the only Island where you can just hop out of your room straight to a great snorkeling spot without having to take a boat.
