Best food in Wellington, NZ

Anyone have any favourite places to eat in Wellington, NZ. Also Nelson & Picton if you have any recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Can?t help with Wellington, as I haven?t been there in years. I do remember eating at a very good Turkish restaurant, but can?t remember the name or the location.

As far as Nelson is concerned, you might want to consider dining at any of the area wineries. We had an excellent lunch at Waimea Estates Winery (voted Best Vineyard Café in Taste Nelson 2001).

Two of my favorite South Island restaurants are located very near Nelson on the Mapua wharf, a 20-30 minute drive from Nelson. Mapua Nature Smoke (a.k.a. The Smokehouse) and Flax. Both are very good.

I have yet to find a really good meal in Picton, so can?t help there either.

This site might help you out a bit - www.dineout.co.nz. It has reviews on several restaurants.

Our first night in Wellington found us in Courtney Place. An area with a plethora of ethnic restaurants. Enjoyed ourselves for the 3 nights that we were there. Ate in that area all 3 nights.

Tks a lot to everyone. Loved Cafe Istanbul & the very fine Logan Brown restaurant(both in Cuba St). Fab pub called Luven close to ferry wharves. In Nelson we ate at Tom Kar Thai (recommended by a local chef who owns chocolate shop) not the best thai we've eaten but OK. Picton was a bit of a restaurant wasteland however the Toot & whistle pub was fine for a burger and a bottle of Marlb sauv blanc. white wine heaven for me! Loved the smokehouse and spent a buck or two on take away salmon-they provide little ice packs so you can keep it cool while you visit the wineries. NZ has again proven to be a top place to visit for wine and foodies-we'd forgotten how good it was!
