Batemans Bay Lodging
As noted previously, my wife and I plan to spend one night in the Batemans Bay area en route by car from Sydney to Melbourne. We are looking for lodging for that one night and I've gone to tripadvisor.com to look at our hotel options. They are, in a word, disappointing.
We would appreciate suggestions as to where to stay in this area. Ideal would be something with a water view and a restaurant either at the property or within close walking distance as The Mister does enjoy his wine with dinner.
We've read good reports on Ulladulla but fear that is too close to Sydney for our first of two nights on the road. We are not wed to Batemans Bay as our stop for the night and would be willing to go farther if better options exist.
Thanks,
BigBlue

Have a look at Paperbark Camp:
http://www.paperbarkcamp.com.au/
It's at Jerfis Bay - but may meet your requirements.

I've heard good things about this place - http://www.thebower.com.au/default.htm
it's the bower at broulee (which is a little further than batemans bay but not that much).
have you looked at murrumurang resort?http://www.murramarang.com/accommodation.html I've only camped here, but did have a meal and a drink, which was quite nice from memory (a fair while ago).
I agree, you probably wouldn't want to stay much further north than batemans bay, it'll be a long drive the following day. bannisters at mollymook gets a good write up, but again, go further south I think.
I'll have a bit more of a look and ask around. Perhaps the canberrans may also have some ideas.
Also, I just found out that the place I'd been to for dinner many moons ago on the water at batemans bay is called jamesons - well it used to be, now apparently its called on the pier http://www.onthepier.com.au/

Amooran Court in Narooma is in a nice spot a bit further than Batemans Bay. Across from the golf course and ocean. If you walk straight across the golf course lovely little view. If you get a seaview room you maybe be able to see whales from your balcony.
Newish accommodation, ok for sleep over. Not a resort.
