Our dates of travel have changed:they will be from March 01 to March 30,2008.Instead of starting in the North & going to the South it will be reversed.Adelaide will be the starting point.From here we will travel by rental car to the Great Ocean Road stopping overnight three or four nights at some B&B's.One night stayover in Melbourne and fly next day to Sydney.Another 6 nights in Sydney travelling by local transportation to see the area.Fly to Brisbaine for another six nights staying at B&B's in the Gold Coast area.Final flight to Cairns where we hope to visit Pat Woolford for 6 or 7 nights at her B&B. The itinerary has been shortened a little bit so we would have more time to enjoy the places we visit.

Sounds pretty good.
On your trip from Adelaide to Melbourne via The Great Ocean Road I would suggest Port Fairy in south western Victoria and Lorne, south of Melbourne as your stop over points. I would only stay a night at each place and then spend an extra night or two in Melbourne. There is lots to see in Melbourne e.g. the best public Art Galleries in Australia, the MCG home of the '56 Olympics and this years Commonwealth Games, Lygon Street Carlton with Italian cafes etc. as good as those in Italy and a superb general restaurant scene, the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island, Healsville Wildlife Sancturary, the Yarra Valley and without a doubt the best shopping in the country. The Great Ocean road is very scenic, but really the towns are extremely quiet.
March is definitely the best month so keep planning and enjoy your trip.

Oh and I forgot to mention, if you haven't seen any Kangaroos on the way try and find the Anglesea Golf Club. Seriously they are everywhere. Anglesea is a little town on the Great Ocean Road about midway betwen Lorne and Geelong.

To take up DownUnder's suggestion of the kangaroo's at the Anglesea Golf Course, coming in from the Lorne direction, you need to turn left at the Shell Service Station (there is only one service station) into Noble Street. Drive up Noble Street for about a kilometre and you will see Golf Links Road on your right. Park in Golf Links road and hopefully you will see some kangaroos. Your best chance of seeing them is earlier morning and late afternoon, but it is not unusual for them to be out and about during the day. Unfortunately the golf links are now fenced off so you won't be able to access the links themselves. If you are golfers and have the time, you could even play 9/18 holes there. You would be quite unlucky not to come across some during your time there. They are open to non-members.

Incidentally my personal preference would be to spend a night at Apollo Bay rather than Lorne but it is a fairly moot point.

I'd take a night off Sydney and Brisbane at least and spend the extra time in Melbourne. There's a great deal to see and do there and well worth the effort. It's just my opinion but I prefer Melbourne to Sydney - though Sydney will be a great place to visit I think you should give Melbourne a bit more time.
