I agree about the unfortunate and often tasteless obsession by the city Burghers , government and some citizens to claim to be the " best " at everything .No two cities are comparable . Why we cannot leave well enough alone and look after the things that made the place lovely in the first place is beyond me eg our Lord Mayor took $170,000 earmarked to help save some of the thousands of Elm trees that are dying in the drought to buy more Xmas decoarations ! What do they say " BREAD AND CIRCUSES " . Enough -it is a hot topic with me .
Anyway , please be assured that not all Melbournians spout this nonsense to which you refer .
