Aussie GTG - 2011 - Where? When?

I thought I would put this out there and try and get plenty of advance notice for our GTG next year. At our GTG this year it was agreed that another one next year would be fantastic and Sydney and Perth were both put up as destinations and June was put out as a suggested month.

So fellow Fodorites what are you thoughts - I know it SEEMS a long way off but time is flying and it's already been 3 months since our GTG in Melbourne. I have noticed in the Lounge that one of the GTGs there is actually spilling over to a weekend to include a hike and a day trip.

This could be a possibility as well. For example just say we chose the Gold Coast (beautiful in June I might add) as a GTG destination we could organise a lovely day trip to Lamington National Park for a lovely bush walk or Mt. Tamborine for wine/cheese/chocolate tasting.

Anyway I think the TIME of year is the important decision so people can plan ahead and we can have a big turn out hopefully.

So guys are you up for it? Let's get your thoughts and see what we can come up.

I'm happy to go to Perth or to organise something in Sydney, whatever suits. I might be in Venezuela for two weeks in June, but I'll be there if humanly possible!

Susan, are you going to Caracas? If so, I have a friend who lives there & she would be a great contact. She's a Fodorite too, but doesn't post very often.

Unlikely to make either of those venues as June is the beginning of my busy season. If it was to be in Cairns though I could organise a tour of the Atherton Tablelands at cost. i.e. I would drive and guide for free. Could include sightseeing, coffee & fruit wine tasting along with wildlife in the wild.

Hi Bokhara, yes if all goes to plan I will be going Caracas. I'll probably be staying with a colleague. Going to see this work by Gego amongst others.

Hey, is that "my" AlanJG? (well, hundreds of others would claim ownership as well I suppose)

I'm just lurking. I am unlikely to get back to Australia soon. My plans keep getting drop kicked to the curb. Now I am thinking 2013. Sigh. You all have a grand time at your GTG.

Get Together, dottie.

Mystery to me why it's GTG, instead of GT, but that seems to be the Fodors abbreviation.

Hey Dotty,
I have had to work my way through quite a bit of Fodor's shorthand - so don't be embarassed at all to ask about anything!

Too soon to tell. My current situation prevents planning that far in advance. A lot can happen between now and then, but I can safely say that I currently have no plans for June.

If it's in Sydney, I'd love to come. It would be my first GTG.

I'm fine for May or June, any location.

AlanJG, you mentioned June is the beginning of your busy season & I'm assuming that applies to other Fodorites in tourism/hospitality in FNQ. Would May suit you better?

Will try to get to wherever it is held but, have to admit Sydney would be simpler for me, and am not worried about what month.

Toucan2, of course I am "yours". I was previously on Fodor's under the alias of TreeRoo. [I thought I got banned but it seems it was a glitch!] Hope you and all your others are well.

Bokhara2, April would suit me better and I may be south in May or April anyway. A GTG might influence the timing of the trip. Sydney seems to be firming as the favourite.

My offer for a trip to the Tablelands before or after a Cairns based GTG holds for any time of year.
Regards,
Alan
