I flew AOM to Europe. It was the most cramped seating ever! And we were in the second row and the movie screen was full sized covering the entire wall in front of us. The bright glare made it impossible to sleep. The restroom door was broken and kept swinging open and banging. Poor maintenance and poor seating made this a terrible flight. I hope yours is better. My husband took a thermos of his homemade margaritas and he didn't mind the flight as much as I did although he was squished like a sardine.

We flew AOM from LA to Tahiti. Slept most of the way there. On the return, had no problems. It was just another airline. The meal was probably the best airplane meal ever. Veal, a bottle of wine and glorious French bread. No better or worse than any other airline.

Fly any other choice, this is the airline from HELL. We flew to Tahiti, it left late from LAX, not a problem, but the seating is such that you cannot eat or even put your tray down if the person in front of you uses the 2" they give you to recline. We have been back to Tahiti since and flew Hawaiian Air. It was 1st class in coach compared to AOM,

We had a fine time on AOM and would happily fly them again. They no longer fly DC-10s to Tahiti--they use Airbuses now, which are roomier than 747s to me (and I'm 6', my husband 6'2'').

Also, if you get to the airport early, you can request exit row seating (we did on both flights).

Otherwise, the flight is fine--the crew is young and French, and there were some interesting language barriers, but they were inexpensive, fed us often, showed decent movies (and most importantly) got us and our luggage there on time.

I have heard horror stories from people before who had mechanical problems & had to wait a day to leave--AOM has only limited operations at LAX and does run into trouble if a plane is out of order. BUT, this same situation applies to dozens of other international airlines at LAX.

The biggest two drawbacks are: no frequent flyer arrangement with a US carrier, and departing LAX at midnight is a drag...

My advice? Sip some of the free wine on board, nap, and remember--it's just a flight!! You land in paradise...

I agree with most of the comments - it is like any other airline - packed in. One interesting thing - the flight we took was a continuation of a flight from France. It was a direct from France to LA, short stop - then direct to Tahiti. So NOONE can complain that gets on in LA, but those people that had been crammed in there for the whole thing - unbelieveable!! Also, I was very surprised at how many children were one the plane. It's a very popular vacation destination for the French. Yes, some of the children were cranky (who wouldn't be?), but it was not as bad as it could have been.....

I really hated being in that plane for soooo long. The monitor/screen kept us informed about where the plane was in the air compared to our destination and it seemed to take forever! I guess it is the price you pay for paradise, as I would do it again in a second!!!!!

We enjoyed the food.... and the the toothbrush and toothpaste were REALLY appreciated. If....ahem WHEN I go again I would bring bottled water. I just couldn't get it quick enough to avoid cottonmouth.

I envy you!!!!Have a great time!!!!!
