Am going to burma and laos in August. I've heard that we should organise a tour for Burma. We are a little hesitant because tours can be pretty obnoxious. Do you think we could go without a tour? Also, we are still a little hesitant about Burma because of the SLORC's atrocious record on human rights... We don't have a whole lot of time unfortunately (only about 5 or 6 days in Burma) and probably only a few days in Laos. For Laos, we are just planning on visiting Vientenne and Luang Prabang. Any ideas or comments would be helpful.
Thanks,
Mona

I had heard that missing Burma would be a huge mistake... it is supposedly untouched by tourism. However, the visa is $300 approx?? just wondering if this info is correct and if so, it was worth the $$. What the are safety issues in both Burman and Laos. Any info would be appreciated. thanks

Hi there. I am traveling to Burma and Laos in November. For Burma, it was suggested that I do a customized tour because it is difficult to use public transportation considering I would be there only 12 days. I am hesitant to do a customized tour.....is it possible to hire a car and driver locally? Is this a good idea?
Also, is there any place special in Laos you would recommend? I will be there about 12 days.
Thank you for your help
Katchen ([email protected]

Hi Katchen

Burma: try to take the train from Rangoon to Mandalay. For me Mandalay was the most beautiful place in Burma.
Also the inland airtraffic should be more efficient than years ago.
Laos: go to Luang Prabang (quiet and nice town with lot of things to do) Also
easily reachable by air.
Have a nice time = Bruno
