Any Accommodation Suggestions for Adelaide and Hobart?
Its our first trip to Austrailia and much of the planning is done but we are undecided on
accommodations in two cities.
We will be in Adelaide and later in Hobart for 2 nights in each location and wonder if there are Foderites who have recommendations on a clean, monderate priced accommodation in these cities. Our preference is washroom facilities in the room and the premises located in an area within walking distance to good restarurants. Our travel to these cities will be during the last week of October. Any suggestions?

By "washroom facilities" do you mean laundry facilities or a bathroom? Sometimes B & Bs have co-operated washing machines for guests which is a cheaper alternative than using the in house services. Most hotels and B & Bs will have en suite bathrooms, with some cheaper rooms in B & Bs sharing the bathroom, hostels most frequently have shared bathrooms.
My favourite hotel in Hobart is the Henry Jones Hotel which is about $150-200 AUD for a night, depending on the room and time of year. Check Wotif and GoStay for cheaper deals. It is located right on the harbour front. There's a great fish restaurant within easy walking distance (I think it's called Fish Frenzy) and some interesting restaurants about 20 minutes walk away at Elizabeth st, North Hobart--Amulet and Fish.
I have also stayed at the Casino in Hobart, I think it was $120 AUD per night and the view was amazing, the rooms are great, even if the casino part is fairly tacky. In terms of location, it is further out but there is a shuttle bus to the city.
There are also lots of small hotels and B & Bs in an area called Battery Point which is close to the centre, but a very pretty area with lots of colonial architecture.

Hey.....merely in reply to your quiry, we use 'washroom' as a common alterntive term to bathroom referring to a minimum of "...a toilet and vamity or sink..." in the room. We were not referring in our request for hotel suggestions, accommodations with laundry facilities! Cheers!

Dusty, you will have to learn to ask for a room with en suite otherwise people will direct you to a place to do your dirty laundry.
Check out www.wotif.com.au and put in Hobart and you will get an idea of what is available. As wotif has bookings 3 months ahead you can even check out the facility for washtubs first and book them. However for a well priced and well located establishment the Old Woolstore would be my pick of places and they have bathrooms, toilets and washrooms in them as they are self-contained.
