Is there anywhere really nice to have afternoon tea in Melbourne.<BR><BR>Thanks

For a traditional afternoon tea - with all the trappings - try the Windsor hotel in Spring St (I'm not sure if they do it on weekdays or only weekends)or Hopetoun Tea Rooms in the Block Arcade.

i stayed at the windsor- unless you are 60+ or (and i don't mean this to be discriminatory, it is just a fact) and older "queen" you will find the windsor very very stuffy. try toorak road- or south yarra- those are neighborhoods, not places. but they arev preferable to the stuffy/snotty/1950's atmosphere of the windsor...

Leann,<BR>There are loads of nice cafes around where you can have cake and coffee/tea. Southgate would be perfect if it's a nice day, no need to book, just wander along until somewhere catches your eye.<BR>Other suggestions are to contact the Sheraton Towers Southgate or Hotel Sofitel. Both have wonderful views, if you could have afternoon tea overlooking the city, that would be lovely. <BR>The Windsor is old-fashioned but their afternoon teas are very popular (not cheap though).<BR>Kay

The Windsor has a magnificent afternoon spread but fairly expensive. Why not wander along Acland Street in St Kilda - you can put on weight by just looking in the windows.<BR>Both the Botanical Gardens and the Fitzroy gardens have tea rooms - the Botanical Gardens is nicer as it is situated right on the lake and is really nice on a sunny day.

Leann,<BR>Acland St, St Kilda is an excellent suggestion. The cake shops are to die for. They nearly all sell coffee/tea etc as well. If you go on a Sunday, the Esplanade craft market is on which is worth a look. The Esplanade runs into Acland St. St Kilda is about 5 mins by taxi from the city, or take the tram.<BR>Kay

Since I am not sure whether you are looking for tea or high tea (there is a very big difference) I have assumed you are in search of high tea. My wife and I are 45 & 43 and we had two wonderful high teas at the Hotel Windsor in July 2001. We found it to be very British with an exceptionally friendly staff. The manager, a young man by the name of Jason, could not have been more engaging. Also, if you arrive in that area early you can walk down the street and see the MCG, Rod Laver stadium and the botanical gardens. On the walk back, if time allows, stop at the Parliment building for a tour - it's very informative and well worth taking. You may be able to solve the mystery of, "Who Stole the Mace". That walk will make you hungry enough to be happy that you decided on high tea. I suggest you call for a reservation.

Talkabout Tours has three different walking tours of Melbourne on Saturday afternoons that all end with Afternoon Tea. There web site is at www.chocoholictours.com.au. I've never gone on one of these before but will definitely try at least one when we go to Melbourne in April.
