Accomodation in Melbourne?
Hi there!

I will be arriving in Melbourne in late June and is currently scouting for budget accomodation in the city center not more than A$100 with ensuite and other facilities. I need advice or recommendations on where to stay for my requirements. Some of my choices include Kingsgate Budget Hotel, City Limits Motel, Ibis Melbourne, Victoria Hotel and Hotel Y. How are they??? Please help. Thanks!

Only one I have stayed at is the Vic. We quite enjoyed the "quaint" atmosphere but it is an old hotel with facilities to match. We actually found it cold; only had a bar heater on the wall. We were there in July; freezing!! June probably won't be much better. Don't know about the Ibis; think it might be better.

Hi Mel,

I'm a local, and i think The Kingsgate is in a really nasty street, and looks awful from the outside. Hotel Y looks really good, and the location is great.
If you're interested in staying somewhere within walking distance of the city, you can try other suburbs; North Melbourne, Carlton and Fitzroy (but North Carlton and North Fitzroy are further away), Parkville, Richmond are all really pretty and close to city. The General Post office is in the centre of the city, it might be uesful to ask hotels how far they are from the GPO. I've been past a place called The Nunnery, and have friends who stay there regularly. Don't know the price, but they have rooms as well as dorms. It's a really lovely building, and opposite a park. It's in Fitzroy, where the restaurants and nightlife are great.
good luck.
