At long last I just posted the latest part of my trip report: 30 Days Down Under - Part 7 - Queenstown.
http://leebruch.blogspot.com/2017/12...ueenstown.html
I hope you enjoy the first part. And I apologize in advance if I'm too morose in the last section: Random Musings - Boltholes.

Thoughtful reflection yes, morose - not at all.
I’ve enjoyed your TR more than I can tell you. Thank you so much.
I’ve lesrned bits about my own country that I didn’t know, looked at other things through a different prism & had a thoroughly good read!

elbegewa- I'd love to read the Melbourne report but it's not under that heading . Has it moved ?
BTW we don't eat marmite - that's English - it's vegemite and so different from marmite !!!
My great great grandfather along would have been in VDL when your relative was - it's great to have convicts as you have found because you can get so much info - I have at least 10 .
Love your reports

northie ... it's still there ... since i posted it in November it's in the blog archive under November. The links all work for me, but if not for you, Melbourne is at http://leebruch.blogspot.com/2017/11...melbourne.html
BTW ... I'm working on Auckland and my flight home ... hopefully will post them by very early next week ... then towards the end of the year or Jan. I'll be posting about driving from the West Coast to Alberta Canada and back during the middle of the winter

I have just been reading your trip report of Cairns, Port Douglas and the Daintree. We did a similar trip at the end of July this year. We did get to see a Cassowary, but that was on the Atholton Tablelands, just happened to be walking down a track to a waterfall, and another tourist told us there was one just down the track. It was a big bird!!
I also get motion sickness so wasn't brave enough to go to the Outer Reef. My DH and I went to the Low Isles on the Reef Sprinter, only took 15 minutes, you were going fast! Also got to relax on the Island and snorkel in the beautiful water.

elbegawa -
I just returned from a trip to Europe, so just now got around to reading the rest of your report. I also was pretty knackered after flitting around for a month. Vacation is good, but home is pretty good too.
A great read, thanks for posting.

Yes, thanks for this, a great read indeed.
Btw @ 29 Nov "...there was the time a young man in Perth asked me if I was Scottish"
In the late 70s the cashier at the Burger King in downtown Chattanooga asked me, "You French or German or somethin' ?"
