Yunnan and Vietnam, any help?
We are planning our second trip to Chian for next August. We intend to visit Yunnan BUT I promised to my Dughter to spend some days on a beach so I plan to have a one week stay in Vietnam.
The first idea for our itinerary is to stay 8/10 days in Yunnan visiting Kunming, Dali, Lilijang. We should organize our trip to Vietnam travelling from Kunning to Hanoi and back (overnight train or flight).
Have you any suggestion to give me related to places to visit, transports between places in China, hotels to stay...
Any help is appreciated.
Grazie, ciao.

For Yunnan you will have to fly into Kunming. This is good for at least 3 days - you can visit the Stone Forest which will be a full day, you can also have lunch there if you like. Visit to West Hill and the Old City would be another half day. There is also a Minority Culture Center as well as a couple of temples which can be done in another half day.
They have quite a number of daily flights into Dali and Lijiang. Dali and Lijiang is also good for at least 3 days. Why do you want to fly to Vietnam for the beach when you can fly to Heinan Island for one of China's best beaches from Knuming?
Cheers

Hi,
thanks to Joe Chan.
I answer to your question: even if I think that we could afford to stay in Vietnam only for few days I would like to have a "little understanding" of their way of live / culture etc. on top of spending time on beaches...
Grazie, any other input on Yunnan is welcome.
Ciao.

Hotel selection Kunming :
4 Star - The Bank Hotel
- Golden Dragon
- Kunming
- King World
3 Star - Palace
- King Town
- Haitian
Dali - Dali Guest House
Lijiang - Guan Fang 4 Star
- The Grand Lijiang 3 Star
In Lijiang they have cheaper hotels located in the heart of Old Town. They
are a lot cheaper. The Guan Fang is a delluxe 4 star. I would recommend that you stay in Old Town or near to the Old
Town in Lijiang.
Day trips from Lijiang - To the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. You can also do a day trip - 4 hours to Dali. the Drive further along the Jade Mountain takes you into Zhongdian is also an excellent drive with beautiful scenery. It is also the onoy place outside Tibet which has another Palace called the Little Potala with its monastery.
Cheers
